What is a Certificate of Conformity (CoC)?

A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is a document that states vehicle particulars in relation to European Commission (EC) Type Approval standards, along with other important information and vehicle specifications.

Certificate of Conformities are a legal requirement for new motor vehicles and were introduced in 1998; the Certificate of Conformities have 51 numbered lines and are generally not available for any new model of motor vehicle manufactured and type approved before early 1998. 

Certificate of Conformities are a legal requirement for new motorcycles and were introduced in 2001. In 2004 Certificate of Conformities became a legal requirement for all vehicles.

In addition, please be aware that the EWVTA Certificate of Conformity (CoC) applies to products built for the EU market only, if the vehicle is a non-EU build, then a Certificate of Conformity will not be in existence.

What is a Certificate of Construction?

This document is also referred to as a "Dating Letter." A Certificate of Construction confirms the date and country of manufacture and may be issued in place of a Certificate of Conformity, where applicable.

We suggest that you discuss your circumstances with the local authorities of the country you intend on registering the product with, prior to completing the forms, to ensure the correct document is requested. Failure to do so may result in further delays and financial expense.
